•The Indian Air Force C-17 aircraft airlifted two empty cryogenic oxygen containers and one IL-76 aircraft airlifted one empty container to Panagarh,  a small town in the Durgapur subdivision of the Paschim Bardhaman district of West Bengal.

France pledges support to India amid COVID-19 second wave

•French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed his full support to India in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, as the second wave wreaks havoc in the country with almost 3 lakh COVID-19 infections reported in a single day.
•The French PM sent his message of solidarity to the Indian people in the wake of the resurgence of COVID-19 cases. He said, "France is with you in this struggle, which spares no one. We stand ready to provide our support," 
•This message was tweeted by French Ambassador Emmanuel Lenin on April 23rd. 

Indian women create history at AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships

•Indian women created history by winning seven gold medals at the 2021 AIBA Youth Men's and Women's World Boxing Championships in Kielce, Poland.
•All women finalists -Gitika (48kg) Naorem Babyrojisana Chanu (51kg), Poonam (57kg), Vinka (60kg), Arundhati Choudhary (69kg), T Sanamacha Chanu (75kg) and Alfiya Pathan (+81kg) had registered wins and finished at the top. 
•The Indian women's team also finished at the top in the championship, ahead of Russia with seven gold medals.
•The Indian women had won five gold medals previously during the 2017 edition of the Youth World Championships held in Guwahati.

Government to provide free food grains to 80 crore beneficiaries under PM Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana for May, June

•The Indian Government announced that it will provide free food grains to the poor under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana (PMGKAY) for the month of May and June 2021.
•Under the scheme, 5 kg free food grains will be provided to the poor for the next two months. This is expected to benefit around 80 crore beneficiaries with free food grains.
•This is in the same line as PM Garib Kalyan Yojana, which was launched last year. It is important that the poor of the country have nutritional support when the country is facing the second wave of coronavirus.

Government officials informed on April 22, 2021 that COVID-19 vaccination registration for those above the age 18 years will begin on the CoWIN platform from April 28,2021.

Pfizer has decided to provide COVID-19 vaccines in India only through government channels. This means that the vaccine may not be available in private hospitals of the country unless the centre decides to sell the doses to private facilities. The decision comes at a time when India has opened its vaccination drive for all above the age of 18 years from May 1st.

Australia on April 21, 2021, announced that it will revoke a state government's deal to join China's Belt and Road Initiative. The nation stated that it was inconsistent with its foreign policy. Australia's Foreign Minister Marise Payne shared the information saying that the federal government will override the Victorian state government's decision to sign up to China's Belt and Road Initiative.
