State Assembly Elections 2021: Polling begins in Kerala, TN, Puducherry, 3rd phase polling held in Assam, WB

The voting has begun for single-phase assembly elections in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The polling has also begun for the third phase of assembly elections in Assam and West Bengal.
This is the third and final phase of voting in Assam, while West Bengal has 5 more phases remaining. The voting is also underway for by-polls in the Malappuram Parliamentary constituency in Kerala and Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha seat in Tamil Nadu.
The voting began at 7 am in all poll-bound states and will conclude at 6 PM in Assam, 6.30 PM in West Bengal and at 7 PM in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Prime Minister Modi addresses party workers on BJP’s Foundation Day

Prime Minister Modi addressed the workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party across the country on April 6, 2021, on the occasion of BJP’s 41st Foundation Day.
The National President of BJP JP Nadda also addressed the meeting through video conference. The 41st Foundation Day of the Bharatiya Janata Party also coincides with the ongoing Assembly polls in four states and one UT.
The Bharatiya Janata Party- BJP was founded as Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951 by Syama Prasad Mookherjee. Later in 1977, it was merged with several other parties to form the Janata Party.
The National Executive Council of Janata Party in 1980 banned its members from being ‘dual members’ of RSS and the party. Because of the ruling, the former Jan Sangh members left the party and floated a new political party.
Thus, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came into existence on April 6, 1980.

Ambedkar Jayanti 2021: Centre declares April 14th as a public holiday

April 14 Holiday: The central government has declared a public holiday on April 14, 2021 to commemorate Dr. BR Ambedkar’s 130th birth anniversary.
The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions issued a notification on April 1, 2021 declaring that April 14 will be a public holiday for all central government offices including industrial establishments.
The notification read that it has been decided to "declare Wednesday, 14th April, 2021 as a public holiday on account of the birthday of Dr B R Ambedkar, for all Central Government Offices, including Industrial Establishments throughout India."

IOC congratulates Tokyo 2020 on the start of the Olympic Torch Relay in Japan

The International Olympic Committee- IOC on March 25, 2021, congratulated the organizing committee of Tokyo 2020 on the start of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay, in Fukushima, Japan.
The grand start of the Olympic Torch Relay 2020 marks the commencement of the Olympic flame’s journey across all the 47 prefectures of Japan before the flame arrives back in Tokyo for the opening of the much-anticipated games on July 23, 2021.
Thomas Bach, President of IOC while commenting on the start of the Torch Relay stated that earlier today, we all watched with great enthusiasm how the Olympic flame for the games began its journey around Japan. Bach further congratulated the organizing committee of Tokyo 2020 and the people of Japan for this achievement.
The Olympic Torch Relay for Tokyo 2020 started in the J-Village national football training facility in Fukushima. The first torchbearers were the Nadeshiko, Japan football team of women who had won the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2011. The torchbearer took the flame from the grand start to the 16 years old Owada Asato, the second torchbearer. The Olympic Torch will then continue onwards across the host country. It will visit 859 municipalities to its final destination- the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo.

India’s Singhraj wins gold in 2021 World Shooting Para Sport World Cup

Singhraj, the Indian para-athlete has won a gold medal in the 2021 Para Shooting World Cup at Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates on March 21, 2021. Singhraj defeated Uzbekistan’s Server Ibragimov by 2.8 points and got the top honour in the P1- Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 final.
The final score between the shooters read 236.8-234. In fact, after the next-to-last final series, Uzbekistan’s Ibragimov was leading the game by just 0.1 points. The Indian shooter had better control in the final series, as he shot a 9.9 and 10.4 while Uzbekistan’s Ibragimov managed 9.5 and 7.9 to settle for the silver.

Maharashtra's Sindhudurg area named Biodiversity Heritage Site

The Maharashtra government on March 31, 2021 declared an area at Amboli in Sindhudurg district in the Western Ghats, as a biodiversity heritage site. The area is where a rare freshwater fish species was discovered.
The new freshwater fish species, named Schistura Hiranyakeshi was discovered near Amboli in Sawantwadi tehsil of Sindhudurg district. It was found by a team led by wildlife researcher Tejas Thackeray, who is also the son of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
The discovery of the freshwater fish species was published in aqua in the International Journal of Ichthyology in the October 2020 edition by Tejas Thackeray and co-authors.

DRDO to partner with Private Sector in Missile Production

The Defence Research and Development Organisation recently allowed private sector firms to develop and produce missile systems. Also, they can make a partnership with DRDO in Missile production. This is being done under the Development cum Production Partner Programme. The organization has already received bids for the Vertically-launched Short-range Surface to Air Missile System. With this, VL-SRSAM has become the first missile programme to receive a DRDO-private sector partnership.

SEBI: India should separate the roles of Chairperson and Managing Director

The Securities and Exchange Board of India recently announced that it will not extend the deadline to separate the posts of Managing Director and Chairperson. In April 1, 2020, SEBI asked the Indian companies to separate the roles of chairperson and Managing Director. However, a time period of two years was provided for compliance. Now the regulator has issued a warning that this deadline will not be extended. The announcement comes as by the end of December 2020, only 53% of top 500 entities had complied with this provision.

FPI inflows in India: Rs 2.74 lakh crores in 2021

In 2021, India has emerged as the largest recipient of Foreign Portfolio Investments. The net FPI inflow for the fiscal year 2020-21 was Rs 2.74 lakh crores.

Longi Green Enters Hydrogen Market

The World largest solar company Longi Green is to enter the Hydrogen Market. Longi Green is a Chinese company that manufactures solar panels, wafers and solar cells. Today several such solar companies are entering the hydrogen market. This is mainly because hydrogen is a carbon-free fuel that can be produced by electrolysis of water and then stored and transported and used in every possible machinery such as cars to electrical generators to steel mills.

Word Highest Bridge: Chenab Bridge Arch Closure Completed

The Indian Railways recently completed the arch closure of the world highest railway bridge, the Chenab bridge. The bridge is a part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project.

India sets new record in ethanol blend with petrol

In the first four months of ethanol supply year 2020-21, India has reached more than 7.2%. This is the first time India has reached this level. This puts the country right on its course of achieving the target of 10% blending by 2022.
